PET OF THE MONTH

Rain

Rain

Rain is an 8-year-old Female Spayed Golden Retriever. Rain was brought to the clinic on December 18, 2007 for vomiting and lack of appetite. Rain was an intact female and had just finished her heat cycle about 2 weeks prior to presentation. We learned that Rain has a history of eating rocks and stones from the garage floor at home.

To begin diagnosing Rain, knowing that she enjoys eating stones, it was decided that radiographs would be taken to check for any kind of abnormal blockage or foreign body.

There did not appear to be any blockage but there were multiple small golf ball shapes at the bottom of her belly.

Though not consistent with the density of what a rock may look like, those small golf ball shapes should not have been present.

The X-ray was not diagnostic. It was decided that Rain should have an exploratory surgery the following day.

Once in surgery the Doctor noticed that there was no foreign body causing Rain the discomfort, but it was actually her uterus that was swollen and infected causing her symptoms.

The uterus was removed and Rain is having a happy, healthy recovery!

Congratulations to her owners on having her spayed!
