Summer
Summer has been coming to OMVS since the clinic first opened in 2000. She always loved to come to the clinic in the car with her owners, and her two family large breed dogs, all hanging out the windows of the vehicle showing off their beautiful wet pink tongues!
Summer has always been a Large boned Golden, but seemed to get around without any issues. Until arriving home one day after a car ride around the neighbourhood, Summer leaped out of the vehicle and immediately was unable to move her hind end. Assuming she had landed the wrong way, her owners decided to give her some pain control, and wait until the morning to see if there was any improvement. By the following day, it was decided that Summer was not doing any better, and her owners brought her in to see the girls at OMVS.
Summer had her surgery two days following the diagnosis, and was able to go home one day after surgery. She was sent home with very strict homecare instructions to ice the limb 3 times daily, with supportive walks to allow scar tissue to form properly around the joint. Summer began healing very well, and was immediately enrolled in a VERY strict diet! At 107 pounds, Summer needed to loose 35 pounds quite quickly to facilitate proper activity. She was enrolled in a rehabilitation program at the 404 Veterinary Hospital which included Hydrotherapy, Therapeutic ultrasound and Low level Laser Therapy. To learn more about the rehabilitation service please visit their website at www.vetER.ca Since Summer’s surgery she has lost over 20lbs (within 4 months!) Congratulations Summer! We hope you will keep up the good work!
