PET OF THE MONTH

Gus

Gus

Gus is a 1.5-year-old Pug/Jack Russell.

Gus first came to the clinic for a post purchase examination with full puppy boosters. At the time of the examination it was stated that Gus had bilateral prolapse of nictitan glands, also known as “Cherry Eyes” which is where his third eyelid gland is prolapsed on the outer side of both his eyes.

Gus’s owners decided to think about having the Cherry Eyes removed at the time of his neuter, and would wait to see if it bothered him as he grew. With time the Cherry Eyes did begin to irritate Gus, and it was at the sign of discomfort that the owner’s decided to have them removed.

Though there is up to a 25% chance that the Cherry Eyes could reoccur after surgery, his owners were willing to give it a try.

The surgery went very well, Gus recovered quite quickly, and to this day he has not had a recurrence of the Cherry Eyes, and is doing very well!!
