Ellie
Ellie is a 17-year-old Poodle/Terrier mix.
Ellie first came to our clinic on Oct.1, 2007 for a routine visit with required vaccines. From this examination it was decided that Ellie was to have a urine test, as she seemed to be having incontinence issues. Her owner was to think about doing a blood test pending her urine results. Approximately one month later Ellie became very ill and gave everyone quite a scare!! After spending the weekend at the emergency clinic for hepatic (liver) insufficiencies and returning to us on the Monday for monitoring, it was very evident that Ellie had bounced back and was ready for home. After 4 months of eating a protein-reduced diet, Ellie’s owners decided it was time for another wellness examination and repeated blood work to check Ellie’s kidney and liver functions. Blood results showed that Ellie’s organs are functioning quite well for her age, and that it may be time to take her off the reduced protein diet as this may cause muscle wasting after long term, and try to put Ellie and her brother Bear onto a Senior diet. Ellie is still getting her Support Vitamin supplement twice daily and seems to be a very happy girl. Congratulation to Ellie for being our Senior Pet of the Month!
