Xena Princess

Xena is a wonderful large 8-year-old German Shepherd who would be happy to lay with you and enjoy your company. She has been a client at OMVS since she was 8 weeks old.

This year has been rough on Xena, both mentally and physically. It all started when Xena was having accidents around the house throughout the night, and seemed to constantly be thirsty.
On presentation to OMVS, Xena had lost 4lbs since her previous visit nearly one year prior. Xena appeared happy, and in good spirits, but blood and urine tests would need to be performed to find the cause of this inappropriate urination.

A urine test was performed during her appointment, which revealed high glucose; a sign of diabetes. From this result, a blood sample was drawn and sent to the laboratory.

Xena was transitioned to a high fibre diet, and sent home to await test results.

Within 2 days, Xena’s results revealed she was unfortunately diabetic, and would require daily injections of Insulin.

Though it was a rough start for Xena’s owners to treat her diabetes, with giving the injections, and performing in clinic  glucose curves to ensure her dosing is correct, everything has worked out, and Xena is doing very well!

No more accidents throughout the night, she does not feel the need to drink excessively, and her weight is holding steady!
