Riley Riley is a 10.5-year-old Maine Coon / Domestic Long Hair
cross Riley presented to us at the OMVS after spending the weekend at the Huronia Veterinary Emergency Clinic with symptoms of lethargy, inability to urinate, vomiting, multiple trips to the litter box, tense, large bladder, uncomfortable when palpated. Riley was also reluctant to stand. A complete urinalysis was performed to check for urinary crystals, Red Blood Cells, White Blood cells, and any other abnormalities. A series of lateral radiographs performed at the HVEC revealed multiple cystic calculi in the bladder and in the urethra. It was evident that Riley had a urethral obstruction.
Nearly one month after these radiographs were taken it was decided that Riley must have a Perineal Urethrostomy. This procedure dissects the penis free from the surrounding connective tissue to allow a much larger opening to prevent Riley from further obstruction. Part of Riley's treatment & recovery involves
a diet change to a high quality veterinary prescribed diet.
